What is the Water Quality of the Teviot Brook like now?

The Freshwater parts of the Logan River is currently graded by the SEQ Healthy WAterways report card program as a "D+".  The Logan River contributes an unusually large amount of sediment and nutrients to Southern Moreton Bay.

 Currently there are 3 major reports which correlate this monitoring information:
1) The State of the South-east Queensland Waterways report (Abal, et al, 2001);
2) The Ecosystem Health Monitoring Program 2004-2005 Annual Report, (MBWCP, 2005), More information on this program can be found if you follow the links below:

Recent rains have not flushed the Teviot Brook "clean" - algae builds up on the water surface just upstream of Cedar Grove Weir (Oct, 2008).

Diesel

While around 10% of the current SEQ road population is diesel they are responsible for approximately 80% of the pollution from the road sector.  This development proposes to have at least 4 feeder highways which will predominantly have diesel fuelled vehicles on them.

Motor vehicle emissions account for over 50% of all of Brisbane's air pollution and 70% of non-natural smog forming gases.

Diesel exhaust emissions are a chemical cocktail of at least 450 different chemicals.  Two out of three of the most dangerous carcinogenic chemicals known to man are found in diesel fuel.

Recent studies by local scientists have specifically linked air pollution with community health issues:

Love the Logan Valley - who are we?

The Love the Logan Valley Website has been set up to provide the community information and science with regards to the proposed Bromelton State Development Area.

LTLV believe that this development has the potential to impact on many more people than just those who live within the boundaries of the city.

LTLV believe that anyone who lives within a few kilometres of this development will have their lives directly impacted upon. Anyone who lives within a couple of hundred meters of the state railway line or the 4 new proposed highways will also have their lives impacted upon.

Anyone in SEQ who relies on the Logan Valley to provide them with fresh drinking water or fresh air, will also be directly impacted upon. logan_valley_002.jpg
