The proposed Bromelton State Development Area will have: •· Toxic and noxious industries •· High impact rail dependant industry •· Heavy manufacturing industry •· Chemical storage warehouses and processing plants •· 4 additional heavy transport 4 laned highways operating 24 hours a day 7 days a week (1 via Rathdowney, 1 via Beaudesert, 1 via Flagstone and 1 via Jimboomba). This industrial estate is proposed to have a 1km buffer zone around it to protect surrounding communities from the noxious and toxic fallout from these industries and storage facilities, but not from the 4 associated 4-laned highways which are planned to dissect our communities. In addition the families that currently live within the buffer zones, will still live within the buffer zones once the industrial estate is developed. Who will be protecting them from the noxious and toxic fumes which former State Government leaders admit exist at Narangba and will exist at Bromelton also? The Love the Logan Valley Campaign is concerned that if you live in the Logan Valley and get smoke from fires that are miles away now, what will happen when we have industry sitting within the same valley? If you see the fog settle around your house in the winter time now, what other sorts of chemicals will settle there in years to come? Do you get your house water solely from the roof of your home? What will happen to your health when there are noxious fumes and particulate matter added to your air shed? No modeling of the current air shed or predictive modeling of future scenerios have been run for the Logan River Valley, therefore the impacts on the surrounding communities of both the industrial site itself and the 4 associated highways has not been assessed. We are campaigning to make this happen before the decision to place noxious and toxic industries in our valley is made. Read more below. |
